Meeting on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (2021-01-30)
The first meeting of Ganthaon January 30, 2021was on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as part of the celebrations on Mujib Borsho.
Niaz Zaman began the meeting by paying tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She noted that without Bangabandhu,Bangladesh would not have been a free and independent nation. Though he could not personally lead the fight against the Pakistan army, his leadership from the early years of Pakistan, through his persistent fight for justice for Bengalis, his six-point programme and his stirring speech on 7th March inspired the people to fight for victory. This year Bangladesh is celebrating the 50th anniversary of independence thanks to this great leader.
Anwara Azad then recited a poem on Bangabandhu. She was followed by Razia Sultana Khan who spoke on Asampta Atmajibanias a memoir. She discussed how one often has to take recourse to myth and legend.
Selina Hossain spoke of her compilation of 44 stories inspired by Bangabandhu and published by Anyaprakash. Jharna Rahman then read from her short story included in the volume: “Prachirer Pakhi.”
Maleka Begum described the circumstances surrounding her picture with Bangabandhu which she had posted on Facebook.
The topics for the next few meetings were decided at the meeting:
February — Ekushey — readings from poems/ stories and discussion
March — Swadhinatar Ponchas Bochhor– readings from poems/ stories and discussion
April — Baishakh celebration
May — Discussion on Leela Nag, the first woman student of Dhaka University. Maleka Begum’s book on Leela Nag is with the publishers. The discussion would be on this book if it is ready in time.
It was decided to hold the next meeting on February 18
